Carpal tunnel: how to prevent it and what to do if you have it

May 11, 2022

We live in a day and age where we spend the majority of our days typing on the computer or texting on our cell phones. Because of this, carpal tunnel syndrome has become a more and more common problem. In fact, according to the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, there are approximately 3 million cases of carpal tunnel reported each year in the United States! That’s a lot of carpal tunnel!

What is the carpal tunnel, anyway?

Your carpal tunnel is a narrow passageway (or tunnel) in your wrist. This passageway is made up of tendons, bones, and ligaments. It’s a very tight space and houses your median nerve, which controls sensation in your thumb, index, and middle finger. When pressure is applied to this nerve, it can cause pain, numbness, and tingling in your hand, as well as a feeling of weakness in your hand and fingers.

How do you know if you have carpal tunnel?

The most common signs and symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome are tingling, numbness, and pain in the fingers, hands, and forearm. It’s also common to experience pain and numbness in your thumb, index, and middle finger. Some people even have trouble grasping small objects. If you have any of these symptoms, schedule an appointment with reliable chiropractor to get a proper diagnosis.

How can you prevent carpal tunnel?

In order to prevent carpal tunnel syndrome, it’s important to take care of your body. Start by making sure you’re getting enough sleep. A good night’s sleep will keep you refreshed and make it easier to concentrate on your work. It’s also important to take breaks throughout the day to give your wrists a break. While you’re on break, try to stretch your wrists and fingers to prevent stiffness.

It’s also important to keep your wrists aligned while you’re typing. You can do this by keeping your wrists straight and keeping your fingers floating above the keyboard. This will help prevent stiffness and pain.

What can you do if you have carpal tunnel?

If you’ve been diagnosed with carpal tunnel, there are a couple things you can do to help ease your pain and discomfort. First, it’s important to reduce stress on your wrists. Try to avoid repetitive motions like typing or playing the piano. Applying a cold compress to your wrists can also help reduce swelling and pain.

The Ending Notes:

If you suspect you have carpal tunnel, schedule an appointment with relieble chiropractor as soon as possible. The sooner you get treatment, the less likely your symptoms will progress. If you have been diagnosed with carpal tunnel, it’s important to follow your chiropractor’s orders.
